Part 3: Chinese News Article Reading Practice: Should you buy iPhone 6s? - 买不买 iPhone 6s?

March 30, 2016 by David & Nicole Leave a Comment

iPhone 6s

Hey everyone, we're almost there! This is the final part of the Chinese news article we've been going through for the past couple of posts. For some of you this may be your first time reading an actual Chinese news article from start to finish so congratulations! It wasn't as intimidating as it looked am I right?

Granted, I know it wasn't the easiest of reads, but as I mentioned in an earlier post, reading a real life news articles such as this will really help you learn the right way Chinese people write (and talk) in their day-to-day life.

For those of you who enjoyed this post I will try to find some more like it in the future - don't worry I will try to find shorter ones this time 🙂

Now by now you have seen the various reviews cited from different sources and different experts. Each expert has given his or her opinions/take on the iPhone 6s. Today's part of the article finally wraps it all up and brings us back to the main point of the article which can be seen in the title of the article which is "买不买 iPhone6s?" in other words "should you buy the iPhone 6s?" Here the author comes to a conclusion, and once again cites several of the sources we have seen so far in the previous posts.

Okay let's get started but right before that here's my deconstruction of the key vocabulary. Happy reading!

Key Vocabulary:

亮点(liàng diǎn) - highlight

摄像(shè xiàng) - camera shooting

处理器(chú lǐ qì) - processor (as in the computer chip)

坚硬(jiān yìng) - solid

直观(zhí guān) - obvious

觊觎(jì yú) - to long for, eager to get. As in, to covet the new iPhone 6s.

大开眼界(dà kāi yǎn jiè) - let you open your eyesight and see more things

叛变(pàn biàn) - betray or defect

阵营(zhèn yíng) - camp. But not in the sense of going out on a camping trip with campfire, instead in the sense of groups of people. So in the article it means the Apple Camp vs the Android Camp. It's kind of like how you might say in English Team Apple or Team Android.

愉悦(yú yuè) - joyful, cheerful

推荐(tuī jiàn) - recommend or recommendation

动机(dòng jī) - motivation. I really like this word in Chinese. It literally means "moving + machine" and is the same word that can also mean a motor or locomotive. But Chinese people also use this to describe human motivation and when you think of it it's really an apt description because motivation is the driving force that moves humans.

整合(zhěng hé) - integrate

English Translation:

(Show...)
As you can see from the above experiences and evaluations, the highlight points that the media reviews found most significant are 3D Touch, Live Photos and 4K video recording. Other things like processor upgrade, stronger materials are difficult to experience at the first sight. So [without further ado let's cut to the chase] ---

Is it worth buying?

Wall Street Journal believes that you might not be too eager to buy an iPhone 6s if you already have an iPhone 6, the only thing is you might miss and ask yourself is why don't photos have have animated effect? Whereas, you can consider to get an iPhone 6s if your iPhone is 5s or even older models. Oh and by the way, you have to buy a 64 GB model.

The Verge and New York Times have similar opinions. You can consider to get iPhone 6s Plus straightway if you are still using the model that is older than iPhone 6 because iPhone 6s Plus is “the best phone,” and the improvement Apple has achieved in these two years definitely will surprise you.

[To Android users] Dr Mossberg pointed out that you will not be disappointed by the new iPhone if you want to defect from Android. As for how happy you will be, you need to experience it yourself.

TC and Mashable hold different opinions, they both suggest that even if you're a customer who is already using iPhone 6 you can still consider to upgrade to the 6s. However, the reason why the former (TC) recommended this is because of the camera, whereas 3D Touch is the reason the latter (Mashable) holds.

Overall speaking, the iPhone 5s and users of older models should have stronger motivation to upgrade their phones, but [mainly] this motivation comes from the combination of the big screen that iPhone 6 has to offer and the new functions of 6s. However, most importantly, no matter what model of iPhone you are using, if you have sufficient budget (if budget is no issue), you can consider to upgrade your phone as iPhone 6s indeed can be regarded as the best mobile phone.
