This is a short story that is easy to comprehend and would be good material for beginners.
The sentences and words in this article I'd say are commonly used day-to-day in conversations, which will be a good helping hand for you in the future.
The story basically tells of a young car enthusiast named Kevin. He loves cars so much and kept pestering his parents for a car but naturally they refused, what with him just being a kid and all right. Undeterred, Kevin decides to channel the inner engineer/mechanic in him and learns how to build his own car.
Here's the breakdown of some words that may not seem familiar to you. As usual, feel free to leave a comment below or ask a question. See you next post!

He told his parents, "Please, please, please, could you buy me a car?"
"No," said Kevin's mom, "You are too young to drive a car. It's too dangerous."
"No," said Kevin's dad, "A car is very expensive. We can't buy you a car now."
Kevin was very sad. He wanted a car. He wanted a fast red sports car!
He decided to build one! He bought books and read about the subject. He hung around the garage a lot and watched the mechanics fix the cars. It was very interesting for him and he had lots of fun.
Finally, he started building his own car! He told his parents about it. His father didn't believe him. He said that it is too difficult. His mother said she was worried. She didn’t want him to do anything dangerous.
After two months, Kevin invited his parents to see his creation. His parents were surprised! It was beautiful! It was red! It was shiny! It was a big toy sports car! Kevin could sit inside it and drive!
Kevin's parents were very happy and proud. Kevin's dad said: "I was sure you could do it!"
Kevin's mom said: "I was sure it was not dangerous!"
Kevin smiled and drove away.
